June 4, 2018 is being heralded as day zero, the day that the city of Cape Town, South Africa runs out of water and the taps go dry. A city of 4 million people will no longer have ready access to running water. Four years ago the city's 6 major reservoirs -which hold up to 230 billion gallons of water- were definably full. Those same reservoirs are now 13-26% full. A devastating three year drought combined with a booming population and lack of sufficient infrastructure has resulted in a looming doomsday.
